Pensacola, Fla. (July 9, 2018) – Global Connections to Employment (GCE) team members traveled to Capitol Hill to share personal stories of challenge and success with congressional leaders during the annual SourceAmerica® Grassroots Advocacy Conference. This year governmental staffers were brought to tears.

“The purpose of this event is to give a voice to people with disabilities who want to work, to support them in self-advocacy for meaningful lives by having meaningful employment,” said Lori Kain, GCE government and community relations director.

Allison Ashmore, GCE’s Employee of the Year, shared her story. She works at the Naval Station Newport – Rhode Island contract site in the food galley. Allison was born developmentally delayed and on the autism spectrum, but she always wanted to work in the food galley at the Navy base where her father was stationed as a naval officer. She achieved her goal and has now worked there for 23 years! You can read Allison’s full story at GCE.org > successes.
