In honor of Veterans Day, LifeView Group’s Veterans Employee Resource Group nominated a select group of team members to be featured in a special spotlight series celebrating the veterans who strengthen our organization.
For outpatient counselor Carisa Davis with the Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) program, service has always been about helping others grow, succeed and overcome challenges.
Carisa proudly served 23 years in the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of master sergeant. During her military career, she served as section chief for the commander support staff, supervising approximately 12 airmen and providing leadership and support to military personnel throughout her assignments.
Her service took her around the world, including assignments at Andrews Air Force Base in Prince George’s County, Md., NSA Souda Bay in Crete, Greece, Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Va., and Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, Fla.
Carisa’s decision to join the military was driven by a desire to create opportunities for herself while supporting those who had sacrificed so much for her.
“I wanted to further my education and help take care of my parents, who worked so hard to provide for me and my siblings,” she said. “I wanted to create opportunities for myself while also giving back to the people who had sacrificed so much for our family.”
Today, Carisa continues her commitment to helping others through her work at Lakeview Center. As an outpatient counselor, she supports clients on their recovery journeys, drawing on the values and lessons she developed throughout her military career.
“The military instilled in me the importance of punctuality, discipline, teamwork, accountability and cohesion,” she said. “My experience taught me the importance of listening, showing compassion, maintaining professionalism and providing consistent support.”
For veterans transitioning into civilian careers, Carisa encourages patience and self-compassion.
“Be patient with yourself and give yourself grace,” she said. “Transitioning from military to civilian life takes time. The skills, discipline and experiences you gained in the military have value. Your military experience is an asset, and you have so much to contribute.”
Reflecting on her career, Carisa is grateful for the opportunities, relationships and experiences her military service provided.
“I am proud of my 23 years of service in the United States Air Force,” she said. “Although my uniform has changed, my commitment to serving others has not. I am thankful to continue making a difference in my civilian career and to carry the lessons I learned in the military into everything I do.”
