Veteran Spotlight: Glenn Porter

Veteran Spotlight: Glenn Porter

In honor of Veterans Day, LifeView Group’s Veterans Employee Resource Group nominated a select group of team members to be featured in a special spotlight series celebrating the veterans who strengthen our organization.

For Behavioral Health Technician Glenn Porter with the Short-term Residential Treatment (SRT) program, service, teamwork and camaraderie remain central to both his professional and personal life.

Glenn served in the U.S. Navy as an electronic technician, achieving the rank of E-4. He completed boot camp in San Diego, California, followed by electronics training in Great Lakes, Illinois, and Orlando, Florida. He was later stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, aboard the USS Shreveport.

After earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Florida, Glenn found himself searching for meaningful opportunities while struggling to make ends meet. Although he had considered military service for years, a chance encounter ultimately shaped his path. When an appointment with an Air Force recruiter was unexpectedly canceled, Glenn struck up a conversation with a Navy recruiter while waiting. After excelling on the ASVAB aptitude test and learning about the opportunities available to him, he decided to join the Navy.

Among his most memorable experiences was crossing the Atlantic Ocean during a powerful storm. The waves were so large that sailors slid from one side of the room to the other as the ship rose and fell. While nearly everyone on board became seasick, Glenn remembers that he and his fellow sailors still found ways to enjoy the experience together.

Glenn credits the Navy with strengthening his work ethic and teaching him the importance of trust, teamwork and unity.

“The Navy showed me how to work well with others and trust each other,” he shared. “No matter the race, ethnicity or background of my shipmates, we all worked together to successfully complete whatever the task.”

Today, Glenn brings those same values to his work at Lakeview Center, collaborating with teammates and supporting clients through challenges with a spirit of teamwork and service.

For those transitioning from military service to civilian careers, Glenn offers simple advice: “Bring the skills and values obtained in the service to the civilian world, and you will do great in your career and in life as well.”

This Veterans Day, we thank team members like Glenn for your service to our country and for the dedication you continue to demonstrate in support of our clients, team members and community.
