Mental health and substance misuse

Our team is here to help your child and your family treat behavioral health issues, so you can live life to the fullest.

We provide behavioral health care for kids ages 17 and younger in a variety of settings, including families’ homes, clinical settings and at schools. We can also extend our treatments, services and programs to coordinate with family and non-family members who are involved in the child’s life.

A trauma-informed care approach is the foundation of our work, meaning we consider each child’s individual experience of trauma and their reactions to it. Then we work with them to feel emotionally safe while learning how to cope with triggers.

Child and adolescent outpatient services focus on providing behavioral health care based on the needs of the children in our community – including both mental health and substance misuse.

Outpatient counseling

We also provide psycho-educational groups. Staff have various specialties and have worked with children and adolescents to overcome challenges in life.

Psychiatric support and medications

Child and adolescent psychiatric support services are outpatient services that include psychiatric evaluations and medication management for children aged 17 and younger who are under the care of a psychiatrist. We also provide referrals for children and their families. Outpatient psychiatric support is designed to be convenient and accessible for families, so treatment can become part of your everyday life. We encourage children and their families to be active participants in their treatment plans.

Substance misuse

Substance misuse doesn’t only happen among adults. Life comes with challenges and children – just like adults – are not immune to them. Unfortunately, some young people turn to drug or alcohol misuse as a means of escaping or coping and find themselves headed down a dangerous path.

Lakeview Center provides substance misuse treatment in a variety of settings, so we can get to know kids and provide the help they need, using a trauma-informed care approach.

Case management for children

Case management for children with serious emotional or behavioral disturbances may require multiple interventions or services. We provide a system of care for those children. Case managers plan, link, advocate and coordinate care and treatments to ensure a cohesive, systemized approach for the best possible outcomes. Our family-centered and community-based team serves children and adolescents in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties, providing services in both homes and schools. Children must be at risk for hospitalization.

Wraparound support

When a child faces mental health issues, both the child – and their family – may benefit from community-based, in-home support to help face everyday challenges.

Our Community Action Team serves children in homes, schools and daycare settings to help lower the risk of hospitalization, reduce contact with law enforcement and improve functioning within the home, school and community settings. The program provides services such as: nursing, case management, and individual and family therapy. Clients are frequently seen by the psychiatrist or psychiatrist ARNP. Learn more.

Behavioral Health Network (for kids on a CMS Health Plan)

Behavioral Health Network (BNET) is a Florida KidCare program developed in partnership between the Department of Health and the Department of Children and Families. Florida KidCare works with community-based agencies like Lakeview Center. We assess for behavioral health needs and provide resources through referrals for therapy and other behavioral health services. We work with children ages 5 to 18 who meet the following enrollment criteria:

  • Are enrolled in the CMS Health Plan through Florida KidCare
  • Have been diagnosed with a mental health or substance-use disorder. A child having only an ADHD diagnosis does not qualify.
  • Have a Children’s Global Assessment Scale (CGAS) of 50 or below
  • Require a higher level of care than Florida Healthy Kids benchmarks

Our organization is committed to community-based care to help children heal where they feel most comfortable. We provide therapeutic services in-home and on-site at schools or in the community for children ages 5 to 18 in the most natural settings to avoid disruption in their lives.
